This time I decided to let my client tell her story.
“Last fall I had reached a point where I was sick of myself. I was always tired, my stomach hurt and I had no energy to do anything. I hated the person who looked back at me in the mirror. I needed to change and I felt I was ready to do so. But I needed help. Someone to guide and push me. So, I started to google personal trainers in Turku region. The search didn’t take long and I found a personal trainer in Turku who was just right for me. He had been overweight himself so I thought he knew what it was like. And the references in his web page convinced me. I sent him e-mail and he soon replied and we arranged a meeting to find out if we could indeed work together.
I was a bit nervous before our meeting but the personal trainer, Arthur, turned out to be a wonderful person. He promised to push me if I was ready to do the job. I felt ready and really motivated. I wanted to change and now I had someone to help me. I signed for a six month Bootcamp. It terrified me a little because I was thinking armylike gruelling exercise but the PT convinced me I could do it and Bootcamp was just a word. We would concentrate on my diet, to improve it and put some exercise on my weekly schedule. My goals were to feel better and energetic, sleep better, enjoy exercise and of course lose some weight.
The diet change wasn’t so hard I had thought. I never felt hungry and I actually was eating more every day than before. Of course at first I missed and craved all the junk I had been eating but after a month or so the cravings started to dissipate. I allowed myself a couple of free days (with the permission and recommendation of my PT, of course =)) from the diet when I would eat whatever I wanted but even then the amounts I would eat were a lot smaller than they would have been before. I was really pleased with that.
The exercise then. At first I thought I would die in the gym. I felt I couldn’t do anything without getting winded and every muscle in body was screaming with pain. I was hurting in places I didn’t even know I had muscles! After the first workouts I was crying at home that I can’t do this and I hate it but my friends told me to stick with it and it would get easier. And so it did. I started to wait my weekly workout sessions and loved them. Especially the feeling afterwards. I was euphoric! The things I could do! I was lifting, pushing, dragging, running, jumping, walking, swimming… At some point my PT had to remind me of the importance of rest days.
Well then, what changed in these six monts? A lot. I was feeling more energetic, confident, fitter, stronger, happier and lighter. I had lost 44 lbs. I big thank you belongs to my PT who was always there when I needed him. He supported me and gave good advice, guided me and pushed me when needed. I couldn’t have done all of this by myself.
